Slot Loevenstein

Tucked away in Bloemfontein, Free State, is an acrocentric and Euro centric inspired guesthouse called Slot Loevenstein. The guesthouse takes its name from a medieval castle in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Slot Loevenstein is within close proximity to the Free State Botanical Gardens. The gardens are home to over 400 plants species, there are two dams and indigenous Karee trees, with about 120 species of birds. The botanical gardens makes for an interesting history lesson with the curator’s home having been built during WW2 by Italian prisoners. The City of Bloemfontein is known as the “City of Roses” with more than 400 rose bushes planted at King’s Park. It is also the judicial capital of South Africa. Schoemans Park is another favourite for the golfing, tennis, squash and bowling fans.
